My First Lie

The first lie I clearly remember was over hot lunch. I was in kindergarten and at the end of the year, I was treated to my first hot lunch. It was not noteworthy, but later at dinner with my family, I lied and said it was fantastic. "They even made us cookies with frosting and sprinkles!" Of course, my older brother attended the same school and was also subjected to hot lunch that day. He quickly refuted my story and I was left frowning and playing with my lima beans.

I am surprised now that my first lie wasn't made in defense. I wanted hot lunch to be an experience, even if it only met my expectations as I retold it.

My son does this sort of thing to my daughter all the time! Of course, I know she's telling stories, but I guess I never thought of this as "lying" till I read your posts and Charity's.
